Quick answer

Registering an LPA costs £92 per LPA, or £184 for both types.1 It is £46 with a remission, for a donor whose income before tax is £12,000 or less, and nothing with an exemption, for a donor on certain means-tested benefits.2 Correcting a mistake and applying again within 3 months costs £46.1 Check your own fee below.

Evidence OPG asks for

  • Exemption: a letter or breakdown from the benefit provider showing the benefit, the amount and the dates, with the donor's title, full name, address and postcode.2
  • Remission: proof of every type of income: the last three payslips, the latest tax return or HMRC tax calculation, pension P60s or letters, statements for savings income, tenancy agreements for rent.2 Universal Credit needs twelve months of statements.2
  • Evidence must be for the right financial year (1 April to 31 March), and bank statements on their own aren't accepted.2
  • Send form LPA120 and the evidence with the LPA, not afterwards. Scanned or photographed copies are accepted.2

If you don't qualify but can't afford it

A donor who doesn't qualify for an exemption or remission, but would face financial hardship paying, can write to OPG asking for a reduction (a hardship application), enclosed with the LPA and form LPA120.2 If fee help is refused, you can ask for a review in writing within 28 days of the decision letter. OPG decides within 21 days, and you can only ask once.2

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to register an LPA in 2026?

£92 for each LPA, so £184 for both a property and financial affairs LPA and a health and welfare LPA. The fee is £46 with a remission and nothing with an exemption.

Who gets an LPA fee exemption?

A donor who gets one of the means-tested benefits listed on form LPA120, such as Guarantee Credit, Income Support or Housing Benefit, and has not been awarded personal injury damages of more than £16,000 (unless those damages were ignored for the benefit).

Does Universal Credit mean I don't pay the LPA fee?

Not on its own. Form LPA120 says a donor on Universal Credit can get a 50% remission if their total annual income before tax is no more than £12,000, with twelve months of statements as evidence.
