Who we are

Settle (settleprobate.co.uk) is an administrative organiser for executors handling probate in England and Wales. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to Settle. Our contact email is hello@settleprobate.co.uk.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the service:

  • Email address - only if you choose to enter it. You can use the assessment tool and all guides without providing an email. We collect your email only if you ask us to send you a copy of your results, join the waitlist, or sign up for updates.
  • Assessment answers - your answers to the assessment questionnaire are processed in your browser and used only to generate your personalised result. We do not store your individual assessment answers on our servers.
  • Standard server logs - like all websites, our server receives and logs standard HTTP request information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) when you visit the site. These logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and diagnostic purposes.

How we use your data

  • If you provide your email, we use it to send you the information you requested (your results, waitlist confirmation, or updates) and for no other purpose.
  • We do not sell your email address to third parties.
  • We do not share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We do not use your data for automated profiling or decision-making.

Legal basis for processing

Where we process your email address, we do so on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You provided your email voluntarily and can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us to request deletion.

How we store your data

Email addresses are stored securely on servers located in the European Union. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the data we hold. In the MVP phase, email addresses are stored in a simple encrypted file. We review and update our security measures regularly.

Your rights under GDPR

As a UK/EU resident, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access - you can ask us what data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification - you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure - you can ask us to delete your data at any time
  • Right to restrict processing - you can ask us to pause processing your data
  • Right to data portability - you can ask for your data in a portable format
  • Right to object - you can object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@settleprobate.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have handled your data incorrectly.

Cookies

We do not currently use any tracking or analytics cookies. Standard session functionality may use a session cookie to maintain your state between pages - this is essential for the site to work and is not used for tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking tools at this time.

Third-party services

We use Google Fonts to load typefaces for the site. When your browser loads a Google Font, Google receives a request from your browser including your IP address. Google's privacy policy applies to this interaction. We use no other third-party services that process your personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. If we make significant changes, we will notify users who have provided an email address.
